The motif shows a woman with a naked back in an interior – a motif for which Carl Fischer is particularly well known. He often worked with women and girls in interiors, where the back-turned figure became a characteristic motif in his art. Carl Fischer was a prominent Danish modernist and Charlottenborg exhibitor. He received the Eckersberg Medal in 1922 and is today represented on the art market with interiors, figure paintings, landscapes and still lifes.
